PUEBLO WIND STORM CLEANUP — WHAT TO DO WITH THE DEBRIS
Pueblo wind storms (the real ones, not just regular Pueblo wind) leave a mess: branches across the yard, downed fences, scattered patio furniture, sometimes serious tree damage. Here's the order to deal with it, what insurance might cover, and how to clear it fast.
First: Make Sure Nothing's a Hazard
Before you touch anything: scan for downed power lines (call Black Hills Energy at 800-563-0012 — do not approach), broken gas connections, or unstable trees still leaning on the house. These need professionals, not you.
Document Everything for Insurance
If you have homeowners insurance and the damage is significant (fence down, roof damage, large tree limbs on structures), photograph it BEFORE you clean up. Insurance adjusters need to see the original condition. Most policies cover debris removal as part of storm damage claims.
Sort Into Three Piles
Branches/brush — green waste, can be composted or chipped.
Building materials — fence panels, siding pieces, roofing. Different disposal.
Mixed debris — everything else (tarps, plastic, broken patio items).
Pueblo Disposal Options
Pueblo Greenhouse Compost — accepts pure green waste for a small fee. Worth it if you have a way to haul it.
Pueblo County Transfer Station — accepts mixed debris by weight. Roughly $80 minimum per load.

If Your Fence Is Down
Don't try to 'temporarily prop it up' — Pueblo wind will finish the job in the next round. Document it, then either remove and dispose (we do this) or board it up properly while you wait for fence replacement. We can demo old fence and haul in one visit, then your fence contractor just rebuilds.
If a Tree Is Down
Small branches: handle yourself or call ClearPath. Major limb or whole tree on a structure: call a certified arborist, NOT a junk removal company. Once the tree is cut into manageable pieces, we'll haul everything away.
