That's the price. The rest of this page is the part most companies leave out — when hiring us is the wrong call, and how to spend less than we'd charge you.

Run the math before you get attached to the discount. Ten percent off a $325 half-truck is $32.50. That's real money. But the spread between the cheapest and most expensive quote on the same Pueblo West garage is routinely $150–$250 — five to eight times larger than the senior discount itself.

We've seen homeowners on Bahia Vista and Joe Martinez pick a company because it advertised "15% senior discount," then pay $480 for a job we'd have quoted at $325 before any discount. The discount was bigger. The bill was worse.

• Get two quotes minimum, three if the job is over $400.
• Compare the after-discount total, not the percentage.
• Ask what the quote includes: labor, dump fees, sales tax, fuel, stairs. Ours includes all of it.
• Ask for the number in writing — text or email is fine — before anyone starts loading.
• Ask what happens if the truck fills up early. We stop at the volume you paid for and re-quote the rest, out loud, before continuing.

Pricing here is not the same as pricing in Denver or Colorado Springs, and it's not quite the same as Pueblo proper either.

Lot size changes the labor, not the volume. Pueblo West lots run 1 to 2.5 acres, and a lot of them have 80–150 feet of gravel driveway between the shed and where a truck can safely park. That carry distance is real work. Some companies bury it in a vague "difficult access" surcharge of $50–$75. We quote it up front or we eat it — but ask, because not everyone does.

Metal is worth money and should reduce your bill. A steel washer, dryer, water heater, or swamp cooler has scrap value. At roughly $0.06–$0.12 per pound for shred steel at Pueblo-area yards, a 180-pound dryer isn't a windfall, but three appliances plus a bed frame and some fence panels can offset a chunk of a small load. When a job is mostly metal, say so and ask for a metal credit. We apply one.

The dump run isn't free for us either. A round trip from Pueblo West to the county landfill is roughly 20–26 miles depending on where you are, plus tipping fees charged by weight. Concrete, dirt, roofing, and plaster are heavy and cost more to dispose of than their volume suggests — which is why a half-truck of [concrete and rock](/services/concrete-rock-removal-pueblo) prices differently than a half-truck of cardboard boxes.

This is the section that costs us jobs. Read it anyway.

Skip us if the pile is small and you have a pickup or a helper. Three or four bags of clothes, a nightstand, and a box of books is not a $95 job — it's one trip you or a grandchild can make. Our minimum charge exists because sending two people and a 15-yard truck across Pueblo West costs us about the same whether we haul 40 pounds or 400. If you're paying $95 to move what fits in a Corolla trunk, you're paying for our diesel, not your convenience.

Skip us if the Metro District's cleanup event covers it. Pueblo West Metro District runs seasonal community cleanup and dumpster events for district residents. If your load is ordinary household bulk, no deadline, and you can get it to the drop point, that's dramatically cheaper than any private hauler including us. Call the Metro District office and ask about the next scheduled cleanup before you call us. If it's four weeks out and you can wait four weeks, wait.

Skip us if the item has real resale value. A working refrigerator under 8 years old, a solid-wood dining set, a decent riding mower — those are $150–$600 on Facebook Marketplace, and buyers in Pueblo County will haul them for free. Paying us $95 to take a $300 item away is a $395 swing in the wrong direction. We will tell you if we think something in your pile is worth listing. We'd rather lose the item than have you find out later.

Skip us if you're hoping we'll buy it. We're a removal service, not a buyer. Outside of scrap metal credits, we don't pay for contents. Anyone who promises to "pay you for your junk" over the phone, sight unseen, is setting up a renegotiation on your driveway.

Skip the discount entirely on these: the 10% does not stack with other promotions, does not apply to [skid steer work](/services/skid-steer-services-pueblo) or [dirt work and excavation](/services/dirt-work-excavation-pueblo), and does not reduce the $95 minimum below $95. If you were told otherwise by anyone, get it in writing.

We also can't take everything. Paint, solvents, pesticides, motor oil, propane tanks, car batteries, ammunition, and medical sharps are excluded — those go to Pueblo County's household hazardous waste program, not our truck. Tires carry a per-tire disposal fee. Asbestos-containing material (common in Pueblo West homes built before 1985 — floor tile, pipe wrap, popcorn ceiling) requires a licensed abatement contractor, and any hauler who says otherwise is putting you and their crew at risk.

If your budget is tight, here are the real numbers on doing it another way:

• Rent a 10-yard dumpster: roughly $350–$500 for a 5–7 day placement in Pueblo County, plus overage if you exceed the tonnage cap. Cheaper per cubic yard than full-service if you're clearing a whole house over a week. Far worse if you can't load it yourself.
• Rent a 15-foot truck: around $39.95/day plus $0.99/mile, so a 30-mile round trip runs about $70 before fuel, plus landfill fees and your own back.
• One neighbor with a trailer and $60: genuinely the cheapest option, and the most common one in Pueblo West. There's no shame in it.
• SRDA and the Area Agency on Aging (Pueblo) can sometimes connect seniors with volunteer help or referrals for cleanup assistance. Call them before you spend $500 out of pocket.
• Colorado's Senior Property Tax Homestead Exemption exempts 50% of the first $200,000 of your home's value if you're 65+ and have owned and occupied it 10+ years. Unrelated to junk, but it's the single biggest recurring dollar item most eligible Pueblo West seniors are leaving unclaimed. Check with the Pueblo County Assessor.

We're worth hiring when the job would hurt you or take you a month.

Weight and stairs. A cast-iron tub, a 300-pound console TV, a chest freezer down basement steps. Two crew members, one trip, no ER visit. A single fall costs vastly more than $325.

Volume with a deadline. Selling the house, a closing date, family flying in. A two-car [garage cleanout](/services/garage-cleanout-pueblo) that would take you six weekends takes our crew 3–4 hours.

Estate work. When a parent or spouse has passed, the pile isn't the hard part — the sorting is. Expect $650–$1,800 for a typical Pueblo West 3-bedroom depending on density, less the senior rate if the responsible party qualifies.

Seniors get targeted. Some specifics for Pueblo West:

• Unmarked truck, cash only, no written estimate — decline. All three together is the classic pattern.
• Price goes up once the truck is loaded. Legitimate haulers quote before loading. If someone re-quotes with your belongings already on their truck, you've lost leverage.
• Illegal dumping. Loads abandoned in the arroyos and vacant parcels off McCulloch and Purcell trace back to the property owner sometimes, not just the hauler. Ask where your load is going. The answer should be the Pueblo County landfill, a transfer station, a scrap yard, or a donation center — by name.
• Door-knockers offering a "special senior rate" on the spot. Nobody legitimate needs your decision in the next ten minutes.

Text or email 4–6 photos: the pile from two angles, the path from the pile to the driveway, and a close-up of anything heavy or unusual. We'll give you a firm number, senior discount already applied, usually the same day. If the photos suggest you'd be better off with a dumpster, a Marketplace listing, or the Metro District cleanup, we'll say that instead of quoting you.
