SAME-DAY APPLIANCE REMOVAL NEAR ME

Run this in about 60 seconds before you call anybody:

• The appliance is under 8 years old and the failure is one symptom (won't drain, won't heat, ice maker dead, one burner out). Call a repair tech first. A Pueblo-area service call runs roughly $75–$125 diagnostic, often credited toward the repair, and a control board or drain pump swap lands in the $180–$350 range. Against a $900 washer, that math usually favors repair.
• The appliance is 12+ years old, or the repair quote clears 50% of replacement cost. Replace it. Ask the retailer whether haul-away is included — most big-box delivery includes taking the old unit if it's disconnected and clear, which makes us unnecessary.
• The appliance is already disconnected, dead, or replaced and now it's furniture. That's removal. Same-day, no diagnostic, no waiting on a parts order out of Denver.
• The retailer refused the haul-away on delivery day. This happens more than people expect — bedbug/pest concerns, a unit still full of water, a fridge with food in it, or stairs the delivery crew won't do. We're the cleanup for that.
• There are four of them. A fridge, a washer, a dryer, and a 40-gallon water heater in the same garage is not four service calls. That's a [garage cleanout](/services/garage-cleanout-pueblo) and it prices better as one job.

"Same day" is a scheduling promise, not physics. Our real constraints in Pueblo West:

• Call by 1:00 p.m. for same-day. After that we're usually booking next morning, 8–10 a.m.
• Arrival windows are 2 hours, and we text when we're 20–30 minutes out. Nobody should burn a PTO day sitting in a chair.
• A single-appliance job takes 15–25 minutes on site. Two guys, a stair-climbing dolly, straps, done.
• Pueblo West to the Pueblo transfer station and back is roughly 30–45 minutes round trip depending on where you are off Purcell or McCulloch. That drive is the actual cost driver, not the lifting.
• Weekend and after-6 p.m. same-day slots exist but fill first. Saturday morning is the busiest block we run all week.

If somebody promises you a 30-minute arrival anywhere between Pueblo West and the Pueblo city limits, they're either already in your neighborhood or they're guessing.

Any appliance with a sealed cooling system — refrigerator, freezer, window AC, dehumidifier, wine cooler — contains refrigerant. Federal law under EPA Section 608 requires that refrigerant be recovered by a certified technician before the unit is disposed of or scrapped. It is not legal to just crush it, and it's not legal for a random guy with a trailer to toss it in a scrap pile.

This is why the economics of "free appliance pickup" collapse under inspection. Do the arithmetic:

• A standard top-freezer fridge weighs 200–250 lbs; a side-by-side runs 300–350 lbs; a French-door unit can hit 375 lbs.
• Shred steel at a yard pays roughly $0.03–$0.08 per pound, so a 250-lb fridge is $8–$20 of scrap value.
• Compliant refrigerant recovery plus the disposal fee typically eats more than that entire amount.

> A "free" fridge haul-off is only free for the person hauling it if they're skipping a step. The step they're skipping is the refrigerant.

Also: pull the doors off, or make sure whoever takes it does, the moment it goes outside. An unattended fridge with a working latch or seal is a child-entrapment hazard, and that's been the reason for door-removal rules since the 1950s. It takes eight minutes with a socket set.

This isn't generic advice — the built environment out here creates real friction:

• No municipal curbside trash. Pueblo West households contract private haulers individually. Most subscription plans cap bulk items hard or exclude appliances outright, and a "bulky item" add-on can run $35–$75 per piece with a scheduled date that may be one to three weeks out. Verify your own hauler's terms before assuming it's covered.
• Long gravel driveways on one-acre-plus lots. A 300-lb appliance dragged 120 feet over loose gravel is a different job than a 20-foot walk to a city curb. We plan for it; a two-person friend-and-a-truck arrangement usually doesn't.
• Doorway math. Standard exterior doors are 36 inches. A French-door fridge is commonly 35.75 inches wide — before handles, which add 1.5–2 inches. The handles come off, or the fridge doesn't. Same for the refrigerator doors on a tight basement turn.
• Frozen and muddy ground, roughly November through March. Wheeling heavy units across a soft or icy yard is where property damage happens. We'll lay plywood; ask anyone else whether they will.
• Covenant enforcement. Appliances visible from the road can draw a notice. If you've already got one, tell us — that changes which day matters.

This is the section that costs us jobs, and it should exist.

Don't hire us if the retailer will take it. If Lowe's, Home Depot, Best Buy, or a local dealer is delivering a replacement and haul-away is included, you'd be paying $85–$145 for something already bundled into your purchase. Disconnect the old unit, clear a path, and let the delivery crew earn it. Call us only if they decline on site.

Don't hire us for one working appliance you could sell or give away. A functional washer or fridge that's five years old has real resale value — commonly $150–$300 on local marketplace listings in the Pueblo area, and it moves faster if you offer it free to whoever hauls it. You'd be paying us to remove something someone else would pay you for. Give it a week of listing before you spend money.

Don't hire us if you have exactly one lightweight item and a truck. An electric dryer runs about 125 lbs and two reasonably fit adults can load it in ten minutes. Self-hauling to the transfer station will cost you a disposal fee typically in the $20–$40 range for a small load plus your fuel. If your time is worth less than roughly $50 for the hour, do it yourself. We're not going to pretend otherwise.

Don't hire us if what you actually need is a repair. We can't diagnose a compressor, we don't carry parts, and we won't touch your gas line. A licensed appliance tech or a plumber is the correct call. If you hire us instead, you've paid to remove something that a $200 repair would have saved.

Don't hire us if the item is a gas appliance still connected. We are not going to disconnect a gas range, gas dryer, or gas water heater. Colorado requires that work be done properly, and a gas line is not a place to save $90. Get it capped by a licensed plumber or your utility, then call us. We'll still come the same day if the disconnect happens by noon.

Where we're genuinely limited: built-in units that are cabinet-integrated, tiled-in, or plumbed into a countertop need a carpenter or plumber to free them first — we remove, we don't demo cabinetry as part of an appliance call. Commercial-grade equipment over roughly 600 lbs (walk-in compressors, restaurant ranges) may need equipment we'd have to schedule, which kills same-day. And if the unit sits behind a locked gate we can't access and nobody's home, we can't do the job, however cheap the price was.

Honest numbers, no bait:

• Single appliance, ground floor, clear path: $85–$145.
• Each additional appliance on the same trip: roughly $45–$75, because the drive is already paid for.
• Basement, second floor, or 100+ foot gravel carry: add $25–$50.
• Refrigerator, freezer, or AC unit: add a refrigerant handling fee — ask for it as a line item, and be suspicious of anyone who says there isn't one.

Quotes are given before we touch anything. If the number changes on site, it's because the job changed — a hidden second unit, a stairwell nobody mentioned — and you can decline at that point without paying.
