Nearly every junk removal company in southern Colorado prices by how much of the truck bed your load fills. A standard dump trailer or box truck holds about 15–16 cubic yards — roughly six to eight pickup truck beds.

• Single item (couch, fridge, treadmill): $95–$175
• Minimum load / ⅛ truck (about 2 cubic yards): $125–$180
• ¼ truck (about 4 cubic yards): $200–$300
• ½ truck (about 8 cubic yards): $350–$475
• ¾ truck (about 12 cubic yards): $475–$600
• Full truck (15–16 cubic yards): $600–$800

Here's a check almost nobody tells you to run: divide the quote by the cubic yards. Fair pricing in this market lands between $45 and $60 per cubic yard on mid-size loads. If someone quotes $700 for what's clearly a quarter-truck of garage clutter, that's $175 a yard and you're being taken. If someone quotes $150 for a full truck, they're either not paying disposal fees legally or the price will change when they arrive.

Weight matters too. Most full-truck pricing includes about 3,000–4,000 pounds. Household junk almost never hits that. Wet drywall, dirt, tile, and shingles do — fast.

Volume tiers are abstract until you match them to real jobs. These are the ranges we see most often out here:

• Two-car [garage cleanout](/services/garage-cleanout-pueblo): $400–$750. Most Pueblo West garages are oversized and hold 15+ years of accumulation.
• [Mattress and box spring](/services/mattress-removal-pueblo): $85–$140 for the set; $65–$95 for a single mattress on a job you already booked.
• [Refrigerator or washer](/services/appliance-removal-pueblo): $85–$150, plus a $25–$50 refrigerant handling fee on anything with a sealed cooling system.

Concrete, dirt, and rock are a different animal entirely. Those get priced by the ton, not the yard, because disposal costs are weight-based. A 6×12 trailer of broken patio concrete weighs 3–4 tons and can run $450–$900 even though it barely looks like a half load. Ask about every one of these before you book. A company that won't put them in writing will find them later.

• Long carry: anything over 75–100 feet from the truck. Common on Pueblo West's one- and two-and-a-half-acre lots where the shed sits 200 feet back. Typically $25–$75.
• Stairs: $15–$40 per flight, per large item.
• Disassembly labor: $50–$150/hour for cutting apart a swing set, sectional, or [deck and fence](/services/deck-fence-removal-pueblo).
• E-waste: $30–$60 per TV or CRT monitor. Recyclers charge by weight and it is not free.
• Tires: $12–$25 each. Colorado tracks waste tire disposal and legitimate haulers pay per-unit.
• Fuel/travel: some Pueblo-based companies add $20–$40 for Pueblo West addresses. Round-trip to the transfer station from the west side is 45–70 minutes of drive time, and somebody pays for it.
• Prohibited items: paint, solvents, pesticides, propane tanks, and asbestos-containing material get refused or surcharged. Pueblo County runs household hazardous waste collection separately — that's not a junk hauler's job.

This is the part that costs us money to write, and it's the part you actually need.

Skip us if you have one or two items and a truck. A single mattress at our $85 minimum is not a good deal if you own a pickup and have a free Saturday. Pueblo County disposal for a couple of bulky items typically runs $25–$45 at the minimum-load rate. You'd save $50–$100. That's real money for 90 minutes of your time.

Skip us if the stuff still works. Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Pueblo takes usable cabinets, doors, appliances, and furniture — often with free pickup on larger donations. A Craigslist or Facebook "free, curb, first come" post clears a working washer in under four hours most weekends. You pay $0 and get a donation receipt. We'd charge you $95–$150 for the same outcome.

Skip us for scrap metal. Pueblo has multiple scrap yards. Steel and appliances have positive value — you can get $40–$120 per ton for clean steel instead of paying someone $150 to take it. If your load is majority metal, hauling it yourself is the correct financial call, full stop.

Watch the Pueblo West Metropolitan District cleanup events. The district periodically runs resident dumpster/cleanup days. If your junk isn't urgent and one is on the calendar in the next 60 days, waiting saves you the entire bill.

Skip us if you have more than 4 truckloads and no deadline. Past about 25–30 cubic yards, a roll-off dumpster is usually cheaper per yard. A 15-yard roll-off runs roughly $450–$650 for a 7-day rental including 1–2 tons, with overage at $60–$95/ton. If you can load it yourself over a week, you'll beat our full-service price by 30–40%. The tradeoffs: you do all the lifting, you eat the overage risk, and a loaded roll-off can crack an asphalt driveway or rut a gravel one.

Where full-service pricing genuinely fails you:

• Vague phone quotes. Nobody can price a garage sight-unseen with real accuracy. A photo or on-site look should be non-negotiable, and any hauler who gives you a firm number over the phone without seeing anything is either padding it or planning to renegotiate in your driveway.
• The "it didn't all fit" problem. If your load is close to a full truck, a second trip can add $200–$400. Ask up front whether a return trip is billed at the full rate or a reduced one.

• Unlicensed haulers. A $150 full-truck quote almost always means the material ends up dumped on BLM land or a vacant lot off Highway 50. Illegal dumping in Colorado can be traced back to the property owner, and cleanup orders land on you, not on the guy with the trailer.

Take three photos: the whole pile from ten feet back, a close-up showing what's in it, and the path from the pile to where a truck can park. Send those with the address. Add a note about anything heavy — tile, concrete, dirt, roofing, engine blocks — because that's what moves a quote by hundreds, not the number of boxes.

Then get two quotes minimum, and compare them on the same basis: total price, what volume it covers, the per-yard or per-ton overage, and whether labor and disposal are both included. Prices in the Pueblo market vary by 25–40% between companies for identical work, and the cheapest quote is not automatically the worst one — it's often just a smaller operation with lower overhead.
