JUNK CAR REMOVAL WITHOUT TITLE

Colorado is stricter than New Mexico or Texas on this. C.R.S. 42-6-206 makes it a misdemeanor to transfer a vehicle without a title assignment, and salvage yards operating under a Colorado Motor Vehicle Dealer or Salvage license get audited on exactly this. So the yards in Pueblo — the ones on Santa Fe Ave and out toward the Blende area — will not hand you cash for a titleless car the way a Craigslist buyer would.

Your realistic options:

• Duplicate title (DR 2173). If the car is in *your* name in the Colorado DMV system and you simply lost the paper, this is the answer. Cost is $8.20 at the Pueblo County Clerk & Recorder on Bonforte Blvd, and mail turnaround runs 10 to 20 business days — or same-day if you walk in with ID and the VIN. This is by far the cheapest path and the one most people qualify for without realizing it.
• Bill of Sale + VIN verification. For vehicles 1985 or older, Colorado allows a bonded-title-free path in some cases using a DR 2704 bond or a DR 2426 Statement of Fact. Surety bonds run about 1.5x to 2x the vehicle's appraised value, with a typical minimum premium of $100. For a $400 parts car, that math almost never works.
• Abandoned vehicle process. If the car isn't yours — a tenant left it, an ex left it, it appeared on your acreage — Colorado's abandoned-vehicle statute (C.R.S. 42-4-2103) is the route. On private property you file with the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, and the statutory notice period is 30 days before title can transfer to the towing operator or property owner. Plan on 4 to 8 weeks end to end.

Two local realities change the numbers here versus Denver or Colorado Springs.

Lot sizes. A huge share of Pueblo West parcels are 0.75 to 2.5 acres, and cars sit far off the road — 200, 400, sometimes 600 feet back on dirt. A flatbed with a 50-foot winch line can't reach that. We end up dragging the car to the road on skates or pulling it with our skid steer, which is the single biggest driver of cost. • The car is a 1967–1974 anything, a square-body Chevy, a 4x4 Toyota pickup, or a Fox-body Mustang. Even rough, even titleless, these have real bonded-title-worth-pursuing value. A rusted-out 1972 C10 shell brings $1,200 to $4,000 in this market. Paying us to scrap it would be the most expensive mistake on this page.
• The car isn't legally yours and you haven't done the 30-day notice. We will decline. Not as a formality — hauling someone else's vehicle exposes both of us to a civil conversion claim, and the previous owner tracing a VIN through a salvage yard's state-mandated reporting happens more often than you'd think. Do the Sheriff's Office paperwork first. Yes, it's 4 to 8 weeks.
• You need it gone today because of a code enforcement letter. Pueblo County typically gives 10 to 30 days on nuisance vehicle notices, which is usually enough — but if you're at day 28, our honest answer is that a licensed tow operator with an existing abandoned-vehicle process is faster than us for a titleless car. Call one. We'll happily handle the rest of the yard.
• There are only one or two items and the car is the whole job. Our economics are built around truckloads. A single rolling sedan at $150 is close to our floor, and you'll get better value bundling it with the trampoline, the old shed, and the deck. Bundled jobs in Pueblo West typically save $100 to $250 versus separate trips.
• The car still runs and passes emissions. A running 2004 Corolla with 240,000 miles is a $1,000–$2,500 private sale, not a junk removal call. Even non-running-but-complete cars often clear $500 on marketplace listings within 14 days.

Two more honest limitations. • Call or text with the year, make, whether it rolls, and the distance from the road to the car. A photo does more than five minutes of description.
• We confirm paperwork — title, duplicate-title receipt, Bill of Sale, or Sheriff's abandonment file number. This is a two-minute conversation, not a hurdle.
• We quote a flat number before we come out. No hourly creep, no "we found more weight" surprise.
• Removal takes 45 to 120 minutes on site for a typical sedan; longer if we're pulling from soft ground or cutting a fence panel to get access.
