HOW MUCH DOES SHED REMOVAL COST?

Nearly every quote you'll get is built from the same four inputs. Understanding them lets you predict your own number before anyone shows up.

• Weight, not size. Disposal is billed by the ton. An 8x10 wood shed with asphalt shingles weighs roughly 900–1,400 lbs. A 10x12 runs 1,600–2,200 lbs. A 12x20 lofted barn with a plywood loft and architectural shingles can hit 5,000 lbs. A same-footprint metal shed? 250–400 lbs. That's why an 8x8 metal Arrow shed costs a quarter of what an 8x8 wood shed costs.
• Teardown time. A metal shed unbolts in 30–45 minutes. A stick-built shed with a shingled roof, T1-11 siding, and 200 framing nails takes 2.5–4 hours for two people. A shed someone built themselves out of 2x6s, construction screws, and optimism can take 6 hours.
• Access. Standard yard access, gate wider than 42 inches, truck within 60 feet — no surcharge. Backyard-only access through a 36-inch gate, or a shed sitting 150 feet back on a Pueblo West acre lot with no drive-around, typically adds $100–$250 because everything gets carried by hand.
• What's underneath. Skids or a gravel pad: included. A 4-inch concrete slab: $3–$8 per square foot to break out and haul. A 10x12 slab is 120 square feet, so $400–$900. Slab work is a different job with different equipment — see [concrete and rock removal](/services/concrete-rock-removal-pueblo).

These are the ranges we actually quote in the 81007 area, all-in — labor, teardown, hauling, and dump fees:

• Metal kit shed, 8x8 to 10x10: $175–$375. Usually done in under 90 minutes.
• Resin/plastic shed (Rubbermaid, Suncast), any size: $150–$300. Lightest job there is.
• Wood shed on skids, 8x8 to 8x12: $350–$650.
• Wood shed, 10x12 to 10x16, shingled: $600–$1,100.
• Lofted barn or garage-style shed, 12x16 to 12x24: $1,200–$2,400.
• Collapsed or wind-destroyed shed: $300–$900, and often *cheaper* than an intact one, because gravity already did the demo. Send photos before you assume it's more.

Add-ons that come up regularly: slab removal $400–$900, hauling off leftover contents (paint, tires, lumber scrap) $100–$350 depending on volume, and stripping a wood floor bolted to piers $75–$150.

This market has quirks that don't show up on a national pricing page.

Wind damage is a category of its own. Pueblo West regularly sees gusts over 60 mph in spring. We pull apart more wind-wrecked sheds here than anywhere else we work. If yours has a lifted roof or a racked frame, it is a safety liability, not a repair project — a partially failed structure can drop on someone during teardown, and reputable crews will charge for that risk or decline it. Get it down before the next front.

Metro District rules, not city rules. Pueblo West is governed by the Pueblo West Metropolitan District, and most residential filings carry covenants with an architectural control process. Removing a structure is usually simpler than building one, but if your shed is on a recorded plot plan or you're planning to rebuild in the same footprint, call the District first. A 15-minute phone call beats a $200+ violation letter.

Permits and the demolition question. Structures under 120 square feet generally don't require a building permit in unincorporated Pueblo County, which covers most 8x10 and 10x12 sheds. Larger sheds and anything with electrical service run to it can trigger permit or inspection requirements through the Pueblo Regional Building Department, and any live electrical feed must be disconnected by someone qualified before demo. Verify your specific address — don't take a blog's word for it, including this one.

Asbestos on pre-1985 outbuildings. Older transite siding panels and some cement-board sheds contain asbestos. Colorado regulates asbestos abatement, and a test costs roughly $75–$200 while abatement starts around $1,500. If your shed predates the mid-1980s and has gray, brittle, fibrous-looking cement panels, stop and test. No legitimate hauler will knowingly demo it, and any who offers to is a problem you don't want.

Rodents and rattlesnakes. Sheds sitting on dirt out here become habitat. Mouse-nested insulation adds handling time, and we've found bullsnakes and prairie rattlers under shed floors more than once between April and September. This is a real reason to not crawl under your own shed with a pry bar.

This section costs us jobs. Read it anyway.

• A small metal or resin shed is genuinely a DIY job. An 8x8 Arrow shed is maybe 300 lbs of thin steel panels held together with a few dozen bolts. Two people with a socket set can flatten it in an hour, and the panels fit in a pickup bed. Paying us $250 for that is paying for convenience, not capability. If your Saturday is free and you own a truck, keep the money.
• If your shed is structurally sound, sell it or move it instead. A solid 10x12 wood shed in decent shape sells for $400–$1,200 on Facebook Marketplace in Pueblo County, and shed-moving outfits will relocate one on your property for $300–$600. Demolishing a shed worth $900 to save $700 in removal cost is a $1,600 mistake. We'd rather tell you that now than after it's in the truck.
• If you have three or more other projects queued, a roll-off may beat us. A 15-yard dumpster in Pueblo West runs about $375–$550 for a week with 2 tons included. If you're also doing a garage purge, a fence, and a landscaping tear-out, one dumpster plus your own labor beats three separate service calls. Different math if you only have the shed — a dumpster for one 10x12 shed you have to demo yourself is usually a worse deal than a $700 turnkey removal.
• If the number matters more than the week, wait. January and February are slow; June through September is peak. Scheduling in the off-season, or accepting a flexible window instead of a specific morning, is often worth 10–15%. Same-day and emergency calls run 15–25% above standard pricing. If you need it gone tomorrow, expect to pay for tomorrow.
• We will not always be the cheapest quote, and sometimes shouldn't be. A guy with a trailer and a Craigslist ad might do your shed for $200. Occasionally that works out fine. What you're giving up is insurance coverage if a wall panel goes through your neighbor's window, documented disposal instead of an arroyo dump, and someone who answers the phone in March. Decide which of those you actually need — for a $175 metal shed, maybe none of them.

If you're weighing doing it yourself, price the whole thing, not just the fun part:

• Reciprocating saw blades that survive nail-embedded framing: $25–$40 for a decent 10-pack
• Dump trailer or utility trailer rental: $70–$120 per day locally
• Pueblo County landfill tipping fees for construction and demolition debris: budget roughly $45–$70 per ton, plus a minimum charge — call ahead, rates change and hours are limited on weekends
• Trips: an 8x10 shed is 3–4 pickup loads or 1–2 trailer loads
• Time: 6–9 person-hours, plus 1–2 hours of driving and unloading

Realistic all-in DIY cost on a 10x12 wood shed: $150–$275 and most of a Saturday. Against a $700 quote, you're buying back 8 hours at about $60/hour — and skipping the part where you find out the floor is bolted to six concrete piers. That's a fair trade for some people and a terrible one for others.

Bad quotes come from bad information. Text photos of the shed from two corners plus the interior, and include: dimensions, siding material, roof type, whether it sits on skids/gravel/concrete, gate width, and whether there's electric run to it. With those six things, a quote should hold within $100 — and if a company won't commit to a range before showing up, that's usually a sign the number goes up once your driveway is blocked.
