HOT TUB REMOVAL & DISPOSAL COST

Most Pueblo West homeowners pay between $350 and $650 to have a hot tub cut apart, hauled off, and disposed of. A standard 7' x 7' acrylic spa in an accessible backyard runs about $400–$500. Add $75–$150 if it has to come over a fence, down a slope, or through a narrow side gate. Swim spas, in-ground units, and tubs built into a deck run $700–$1,400. That price is all-in for us: labor, cutting, hauling, and the landfill fee. There is no separate dump charge added afterward. Pueblo County landfill disposal on a broken-down spa typically costs the hauler $60–$110, and that's baked into the quote you get on the phone.

A junk couch is one item, two people, six minutes. A hot tub is a demolition job disguised as a haul-off.

A dry 7-foot acrylic spa weighs 700–900 lbs empty. Fill it and you're at 4,500–5,000 lbs of water — roughly 450–500 gallons at 8.34 lbs per gallon. The shell is fiberglass-backed acrylic wrapped in 2–4 inches of closed-cell foam insulation, sitting on a pressure-treated frame, skirted in cedar or synthetic panels, and wired to a 50-amp GFCI subpanel.

Getting that out of a backyard means:

• Draining — 45–90 minutes on a garden hose, or 15–20 minutes with a transfer pump. We bring a pump.
• Disconnecting power — the 220V hardwired feed has to be killed at the breaker and cut clean at the disconnect box.
• Cutting the shell — 30–60 minutes with a reciprocating saw, breaking it into 4–6 carryable sections. Foam insulation is the miserable part; it turns into confetti that blows across your yard and your neighbor's.
• Hauling — a broken-down spa fills roughly a third to half of a 15-yard trailer.

Total on-site time for a typical Pueblo West job: 90 minutes to 3 hours, two crew.

Our quotes swing on five things, and four of them you can check yourself in about two minutes:

• Gate width. Anything under 36 inches means the spa gets cut smaller, in more pieces. Add $75–$125. A lot of the older builds off Purcell and McCulloch have 32" side gates.
• Distance to the truck. Under 50 feet of carry is standard. Pueblo West lots are big — we regularly see 120–200 foot carries from a back patio to the street on the 1-acre and 2.5-acre parcels out west of Joe Martinez. Past 75 feet, add $50–$100.
• Elevation change. Sunken decks, retaining walls, and the drop-offs common on lots backing to the arroyos. Stairs add $50–$150.

• Concrete pad. Removing the 4-inch pad underneath adds $250–$600 depending on square footage and rebar. Most people skip this. It's a fine patio base.

Add roughly $50–$75 for winter jobs between December and February when the shell is frozen brittle and the water in the plumbing lines hasn't been blown out. Cold acrylic shatters instead of cutting, which makes cleanup slower.

This is the part most haulers leave out. Do not hire us if any of the following is true.

Your tub still works and is under 12 years old. A functioning 2015-or-newer spa has real resale value — $600–$2,000 on Facebook Marketplace in the Pueblo/Colorado Springs corridor. Buyers regularly haul it themselves. You would be paying us $450 to destroy an asset. List it first. Give it two to three weeks. If nobody bites, call us. We'd rather lose the job than take money from someone who could have pocketed $900.

You can get it taken for free. Scrap value is real but thin — a spa has maybe 30–60 lbs of copper and aluminum in the pump, heater element, and motor windings, worth $25–$60 at Pueblo scrap prices. That's not enough for a scrapper to do the labor. But if the tub runs, some spa techs and used-equipment dealers will pull it free to resell. Call two local spa repair shops before you call us.

You genuinely want a weekend project and own the tools. A Sawzall with demolition blades ($40 in blades — you'll destroy 4–6 of them), a submersible pump ($60 to rent), and a pickup with three trips to the transfer station will get this done for roughly $150–$225 in hard costs plus 6–10 hours. If your time is worth less than $40/hour on a Saturday and you have a helper, DIY genuinely wins on money. It does not win on your back, your Sunday, or your relationship with whoever helps you.

Failure modes you should know about before you DIY:

• Cutting a live 220V line. The disconnect box is often 5–10 feet from the tub and people assume the breaker labeled "spa" is the right one. Test it.
• Foam insulation escaping. A cut spa sheds foam like a burst pillow. In Pueblo West wind — 20–30 mph gusts are routine here in spring — it ends up in three neighbors' yards.
• Overloading a half-ton pickup. A cut-up spa is 800+ lbs of awkward-shaped material. That's within payload, but people load it high and lose it on Highway 50.
• The transfer station turning you away. Show up with an intact shell and you may get sent home. It has to be broken down.

Where our service has hard limits: we don't do electrical disconnects at the panel — a licensed electrician handles anything past cutting the whip at the disconnect. We don't remove in-ground gunite spas without a site visit and typically we'll refer that out. We don't repair or relocate working tubs; if you want it moved 40 feet across the yard, that's a spa-moving company with a spa dolly, not us. And if your tub sits behind a locked gate we can't access on the scheduled day, you'll get charged a $50 trip fee. That's stated up front so it isn't a surprise.

Distance matters more than people expect out here. National booking platforms will happily quote you a Pueblo West job and dispatch a truck from Colorado Springs — that's a 45-minute drive each way, and the quote reflects it. We've seen national-brand quotes on standard Pueblo West spas land at $650–$800 for a job that prices locally at $425.

If you're comparing quotes, ask one question: "Where is the truck coming from?" If the answer is anything north of Fountain, you're paying a windshield-time premium.

Don't ask for a "hot tub removal price." Give us four numbers and you'll get a firm quote, not a range:

1. Shell size — measure the outside, corner to corner. "7 by 7" or "8 by 8." 2. Narrowest gate or opening — inches, not "pretty wide." 3. Distance from tub to where a truck can park — steps counted, roughly. 4. Stairs or slope between the two — yes/no, how many steps.

Send a photo from the truck-parking spot looking toward the tub. That single photo resolves 80% of pricing questions.

The truck is already at your house with two crew and empty trailer space. Marginal cost of adding items is low, and we price it that way.

• A spa removal fills roughly 40% of our trailer. The remaining 60% costs you far less per cubic yard than a standalone trip.
• Common pairings in Pueblo West: the old gazebo the tub sat under, the failing back deck, a shed, the pile of yard debris behind the fence line.
• Typical savings: $100–$250 versus booking the second job separately.

• Quote: same day, usually within 2 hours during business hours.
• Scheduling: 1–4 business days in summer, often next-day October through March.
• On site: 90 minutes to 3 hours. You do not need to be home if the gate is unlocked and access is clear.
• Cleanup: we rake and magnet-sweep for screws. Foam always leaves some residue in grass — expect to run a mower or blower over it once.
• Payment: on completion, after you've looked at the spot.

One honest note on the aftermath: the ground under a hot tub is dead. Expect a bleached, compacted 8' x 8' patch that will need soil amendment and reseeding, or a pad of gravel. That's a $60–$200 follow-up project you should budget for. Nobody mentions it in the quote, and it surprises people every time.
