HOT TUB REMOVAL COST NEAR ME

A dry 6-person acrylic hot tub weighs 700 to 1,000 pounds. Full of water, it's a different animal: 350 gallons of water is roughly 2,900 pounds, so a filled tub is 2,500 to 4,000 pounds and cannot be tipped, slid, or dollied anywhere. That's why nobody quotes a real price without asking whether it's drained.

The labor breaks into four steps:

• Draining. Gravity through the drain valve takes 4 to 6 hours on a cold tub. A 1/4 HP submersible pump does the same job in 45 to 90 minutes. Ask whether the crew brings a pump — this is the single biggest scheduling variable.
• Power disconnect. Most spas run on a 240V, 50-amp GFCI circuit. A crew can pull the whip from a disconnect box safely; if the tub is hardwired into a subpanel, you want a licensed electrician, and that's $150–$300 separate.
• Demolition. Cutting an acrylic shell into 6–8 haulable pieces with a reciprocating saw takes 60 to 120 minutes for a two-person crew. Foam insulation, redwood or synthetic skirting, and the pump/heater pack all come apart separately.
• Hauling and disposal. A cut-up spa fills 8 to 12 cubic yards of trailer space and weighs enough that landfill tipping is a real line item, not a rounding error.

Disposal at the Pueblo County landfill is charged by weight or volume, and a cut-up spa typically lands in the $50–$90 range per tub — verify current rates before you compare quotes, since tipping fees have moved most years. That fee exists whether you haul it or we do.

Pueblo West is not Pueblo proper, and the differences show up on the invoice.

Lot size cuts both ways. Half-acre and one-acre lots off Purcell, McCulloch, and Joe Martinez mean we can usually back a trailer to within 30 feet of the pad. That's the cheap version. But those same properties often have the spa in a fenced backyard with a 36-inch gate, and a 7-foot shell does not fit through 36 inches. Widening access means pulling gate posts or cutting the tub smaller — add $75–$150.

Gravel and caliche driveways. A loaded trailer on soft gravel after a monsoon rain is how a $400 job becomes a two-truck recovery. If your drive is unpaved and it rained in the last 24 hours, expect us to stage at the street and carry pieces further, which adds 20–40 minutes of labor.

Wind. Sustained 30+ mph gusts off the mesa in spring make lifting a 5-by-7 acrylic panel genuinely unsafe. We reschedule. Any crew that doesn't is gambling with your siding.

Pueblo West Metro District covenants. Debris cannot sit in the front yard for days waiting on a haul. If you're doing this in stages, keep material behind the fence line.

Deck-mounted tubs. Sunken or deck-surround installations are the most common upcharge here. Removing enough decking to extract the shell runs $150–$400 on top of base price, and putting the deck back is a carpentry job, not a junk removal job. Two-thirds of the Pueblo West tubs we pull land in the $375–$500 window. If you're being quoted well above that without a specific access reason, ask what the reason is.

This is the part most removal pages leave out.

Skip us if you can rent a trailer and swing a saw. A DIY removal costs roughly: reciprocating saw $60–$120 (or free from a tool library / borrowed), a 5-pack of demolition blades $20–$30, trailer rental $50–$80 per day, landfill tipping $50–$90, and a submersible pump rental around $25–$40. Total out-of-pocket: $205–$360, plus 6 to 10 hours and at least one helper. If your Saturday is worth less than $30/hour to you and you own a truck, DIY genuinely wins. We'd rather tell you that than take the job and have you feel gouged.

Don't pay for removal if the tub still works. A functioning 2015-or-newer spa with a good heater and no shell cracks has resale value — $500 to $1,800 on Facebook Marketplace in Pueblo and Colorado Springs, and buyers usually move it themselves. That's a swing of over $1,000 versus paying us to destroy it. Post it for two weeks before you call anyone. The catch: dead heaters, cracked shells, and tubs sitting empty through a Pueblo winter (freeze-split plumbing is common below 15°F) are worth $0, and you'll waste three weekends learning that.

Don't hire a junk removal crew for a sunken tub in a finished basement or a rooftop deck. That's a rigging job. We'll turn it down or refer it out. Anyone who says yes over the phone without seeing it hasn't understood the problem.

We are not the right call if you also need the electrical made safe to code. We can cut and cap a whip. We cannot legally terminate a circuit at your panel, permit it, or sign off on it. Budget an electrician separately.

Failure modes worth knowing about, honestly:

• Foam. Fully-foamed spas weigh 30–40% more than expected and cut slower. A quote given sight-unseen can be low by $75–$150 on these. Ask us to look at a photo of the underside.
• Stains. Tubs on pavers or stamped concrete frequently leave a discolored footprint. Sun-faded surrounding concrete plus a shaded rectangle is permanent without pressure washing or resurfacing. We don't fix that.
• Grass. Whatever was under the tub is dead. It comes back in 4–8 weeks with water, faster if you overseed.

• Same-day quotes are estimates. If the tub turns out to be full, or the gate is 32 inches, the price changes on site. We'll tell you before we start, not after.

Text or send four photos: the tub from above, the underside/access panel, the path from the tub to the driveway, and the gate. Include the brand and rough age. With those, the quote we give is the quote you pay in the large majority of cases.

Ask any company these five questions:

• Does the price include landfill disposal fees, or is that added?
• Do you bring a pump, or does the tub need to be drained first?
• Who disconnects the 240V?
• Is the crew insured for property damage — specifically for damage to fencing, siding, and irrigation lines?
• What happens to the price if the job turns out harder than the photos showed?
