HOT TUB REMOVAL COST: $250-$1,100

Price on a hot tub is not about volume the way a couch or a mattress is. It's about how hard it is to get the thing from where it's sitting to where the truck is parked. Four things move the number:

• Access distance and obstacles. A tub 15 feet from a driveway with a 6-foot gate is the cheap version. A tub in a fenced backyard 90 feet from the street, behind a swing gate that opens 34 inches, is $150 more because it has to be cut into four or five pieces and carried out by hand.
• Whether it gets cut or rolled. A tub that can be tipped on its side, walked onto a dolly, and rolled out intact takes about 45 minutes. A tub that has to be cut apart with a reciprocating saw takes 90 minutes to 2 hours and burns through 3 to 6 demolition blades.
• The deck. Pueblo West has a lot of tubs that were dropped in first and had a redwood or composite deck built around them afterward. That deck is now the reason the tub can't leave. • The pad. If you also want the concrete slab gone, that's $200 to $600 depending on thickness and reinforcement. A 4-inch unreinforced 8x8 pad is roughly 1.5 tons of [concrete and rock](/services/concrete-rock-removal-pueblo) — real weight, real tipping fees.
• Distance from our yard. Pueblo West proper, Colorado City, Rye, Beulah, Avondale, and Boone are all inside normal service range. Past about 25 miles from the disposal site, expect a modest fuel surcharge rather than a flat trip fee.

A 7-foot acrylic spa holds roughly 400 gallons. Water weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon, so a full tub is carrying about 3,340 pounds of water on top of an 800-pound shell. Draining takes 45 to 90 minutes with a garden hose siphon and 15 to 25 minutes with a submersible pump. If you haven't drained it before we arrive, that's dead time on the clock.

Here's the part most people don't know: a hot tub is one of the least recyclable things in your backyard. The shell is acrylic bonded to fiberglass. The cabinet is usually a composite or cedar skirt. Between them is 2 to 4 inches of closed-cell polyurethane foam that was sprayed in place. Nobody separates that. It's landfill material, and it's bulky — a cut-up 8-person tub eats roughly 8 to 10 cubic yards of truck space even though it only weighs 800 pounds. You are paying for volume, not tonnage.

What *does* get pulled and recycled: the pump motor, the heater element housing, the control board, and any copper. That's maybe 30 to 60 pounds of metal, worth $8 to $20 at a Pueblo scrapyard. It does not meaningfully reduce your bill, and anyone telling you it does is selling something.

You can absolutely do this yourself. Here's what it actually costs and what it actually takes.

• Landfill fee: Pueblo-area transfer and landfill rates for a pickup or small trailer load typically land in the $40 to $75 range per load. A cut-up 8-person tub is one heaping trailer load or two pickup loads.
• Trailer rental: $60 to $90 for a day from a local rental yard, more if you need a ramp.
• Blades: A 5-pack of bi-metal demolition blades runs $22 to $35. You'll use 3 to 6. Fiberglass and acrylic dull blades fast, and the foam gums them.
• Time: Plan on 5 to 8 hours across draining, disassembly, two dump runs, and cleanup. Most people underestimate the cut-up by half.
• The mess: Cutting spray foam produces a blizzard of yellow particles that will end up in your yard, your neighbor's yard, and your gutters. Pueblo West wind does not help. Tarp the area first or you'll be picking foam out of the xeriscape rock for a month.

Total DIY: roughly $90 to $220 in hard costs. If your time is worth $40/hour, the "savings" against a $450 service call disappears entirely. If you have a truck, a helper, and a free Saturday, DIY is genuinely the right answer.

This is the section that costs us jobs, and it should exist anyway.

Don't pay for removal if the tub still works. A functioning 5-year-old spa with a good heater and no shell cracks has real resale value — $800 to $2,500 on the Pueblo/Colorado Springs used market. Listing it as "free, you haul" on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist moves a working tub in 3 to 10 days in this area during spring and summer. You get the tub gone at zero cost. The catch: about half of free-tub responders never show up, and you'll field a lot of texts. If you can't tolerate two weeks of flakiness, pay someone.

Don't pay full price if the tub is already in pieces. If a previous owner or a storm already destroyed the shell and it's sitting in chunks, that's not a hot tub job anymore — it's a debris pile, and it should be quoted as a standard [junk removal](/services/junk-removal-pueblo) load, usually $175 to $325. Don't let anyone charge you a specialty rate for a pile.

Don't hire this out if you're already doing a bigger project. If you're clearing a whole property, a garage, and a shed, bundling everything into one job is cheaper per item than four separate calls. A standalone hot tub trip carries the same truck-and-crew minimum as a much larger load.

Be realistic about what a $350 quote does not include. It does not include:

• Electrical. A 220V/50-amp GFCI disconnect box has to be shut off at the panel and the whip cut. Junk haulers are not electricians. If you want the subpanel, disconnect, and buried conduit properly removed and the circuit retired, that's a licensed electrician, typically $150 to $400 in this market. Most crews will safely kill and cap the feed at the tub end and leave the box.
• The concrete or the deck, unless you asked and it's on the quote.
• Landscape repair. Moving 800 pounds across a lawn on a dolly leaves ruts. Under a dead patch of grass where the tub sat, expect 6 to 10 weeks for anything to grow back — and in Pueblo West's clay-and-caliche soil, often longer without amendment.
• Gas line work, on the rare propane-heated unit. That's a plumber.

The failure modes worth knowing. Crane-assisted removals — second-story decks, tubs in fully enclosed courtyards, tubs behind a house with zero side-yard access — start around $500 to $900 for the crane alone, on top of labor. If your only path out is over the roofline, get that quoted separately before you assume any number you read online applies. And if your tub is in a Pueblo West Metro District neighborhood with active covenant control, check whether debris staging in the front yard or driveway has a time limit; some HOAs allow 24 to 72 hours, and a Saturday DIY job that stretches to Tuesday can earn you a letter.

Photos beat descriptions every time. Send four: the tub from the front, the gate or access path with a tape measure or a person for scale, the electrical disconnect box, and a wide shot showing how far the tub is from where a truck could park. That's enough to give a firm number without a site visit 90% of the time.

Ask three questions of anyone you call:

• Is the quote all-in, including disposal — or is there a per-ton or per-yard charge added at the dump?
• Does it include the concrete pad and any deck cutting, or is that separate?
• What happens to the electrical whip?

A crew that answers those cleanly is a crew that has done more than a handful of these. For most Pueblo West homeowners: $350 to $650, two to three hours on site, one truck, tub gone same day. Drain it beforehand and you'll be at the low end of that range. If the tub works, try giving it away first — that's the genuinely cheapest option and it takes about ten minutes to list. If it's cracked, foam-logged, hasn't held temperature in two winters, and is currently functioning as an expensive planter, hauling it is the right call, and the price is what it is because someone has to cut 800 pounds of fiberglass into pieces and carry them past your gate.
