Pricing in this trade is volume-based, not item-based, which trips people up. You're renting space in a truck, not paying per couch.

A standard dump trailer or truck bed holds roughly 15 cubic yards. Here's how typical Pueblo West furniture jobs slot in:

• Single item (recliner, dresser, love seat): $95–$145. Takes 15–25 minutes on site.
• 1/8 truck (sofa + coffee table, or a mattress set): $140–$185
• 1/4 truck (full bedroom set — bed frame, mattress, box spring, two nightstands, dresser): $225–$320
• 1/2 truck (living room + bedroom, typical downsizing load): $385–$525
• Full truck (whole-house furniture, 3-bed home): $650–$900

This isn't a generic service area. A few local realities matter:

The Pueblo County landfill (Southside, off Highway 78) charges roughly $32–$45 per ton for household waste with a minimum fee around $20–$25, and it's open Monday–Saturday. A sofa weighs 80–150 lbs; a queen mattress and box spring together run 90–130 lbs. So the actual disposal cost for a single couch is often under $10. You are paying a removal company for labor, truck, insurance, and the 30–45 minute round trip — not for the tipping fee. Anyone who tells you the dump is what makes it expensive is selling you something.

Lot sizes work in your favor. Most Pueblo West parcels are 1 acre or larger, with wide driveways and no HOA dumpster restrictions in the majority of the district. That means a truck can usually back within 20 feet of a garage door, which keeps labor time down. Compare that to a Downtown Pueblo alley job where the carry distance alone can add $60–$80.

Wind is a scheduling factor. Pueblo West sees gusts over 40 mph on a meaningful number of spring afternoons. Loose cushions, mattress bags, and tarped loads genuinely become a hazard. A crew that reschedules a windy-day mattress haul isn't being flaky — an unsecured load on Highway 50 is a citation and a liability.

This is the section most companies leave out. Skip the paid pickup in these cases:

• You own or can borrow a pickup truck and have one able-bodied helper. A single couch to the Southside landfill is realistically $25 in fuel and fees plus 90 minutes of your Saturday. If your time is worth less than roughly $70/hour, doing it yourself wins outright. That's not a close call — it's a $150 swing.
• The furniture is genuinely good. A solid-wood dresser, a leather sectional under five years old, or a decent dining set has resale value. Real limitations, plainly stated:

Bed bugs and heavy contamination. "Free furniture removal" is almost never free. The offer usually means free *only if* the item is resale-grade, is on the ground floor, and the buyer's schedule works. When a scavenger sees a sagging particle-board dresser, the truck doesn't show. You've lost a week.

Donation rejection is common. Charities decline stained, torn, smoke-damaged, or recalled items, plus most crib and non-CPSC-compliant baby furniture. Expect a real chance that the "donate it" plan ends with the piece back on your porch.

Same-day isn't always same-day. A two-person crew realistically completes 6–9 stops per day. Call at 4 PM on a Friday in June and next-morning is the honest answer, not two hours.

Pricing over the phone is an estimate. Anyone quoting an exact number for a whole-house load sight-unseen is guessing. Get the price confirmed on site before loading starts — a reputable crew will do that every time, and you should be free to decline with no charge if the number changes.

Do this and your quote will land within about 10% of the final price:

• Take three photos: one of each item, one showing the exit path, one of where a truck can park.
• Say the floor and the stairs. "Second floor, 14 steps, tight turn at the landing" changes labor by 20–30 minutes.
• Count in truck fractions, not items. "About a quarter of a pickup bed" is more useful than "some furniture."
• Flag anything special: sleeper sofas (often 40–60 lbs heavier than they look), glass, safes, gun cabinets, waterbeds, or anything with fluid.
• Ask directly whether they're insured and what happens if a wall or floor gets damaged. Get the answer before, not after.

Some fraction of furniture is recyclable or reusable. Mattresses are the clearest example — steel springs, foam, and wood frames are all recoverable, and a mattress is roughly 75% recyclable by weight when a facility exists to process it. Pueblo County's options here are more limited than Denver's or Colorado Springs', so the realistic outcome for a worn mattress in Pueblo West is the landfill. Anyone promising a 100% diversion rate in this county is overselling.

Metal is the reliable exception: bed frames, filing cabinets, and metal patio furniture go to a scrap yard, not the landfill, and that genuinely reduces what gets buried. Solid-wood and usable upholstered pieces get routed to reuse channels where they qualify.

A normal single-item Pueblo West job runs about 20 minutes door to door. Larger cleanouts run 2–4 hours. Payment is typically due on completion — card, cash, or check — and you should never be asked for a deposit on a same-day residential furniture haul.

You don't need to be home for a garage or curbside pickup as long as access and payment are arranged in advance. For anything inside the house, someone over 18 should be present.
