What follows is the part most haulers leave off their site: what furniture removal actually costs by piece, what drives the number up, and the three situations where you should absolutely not hire us.

Pricing in this market runs on volume in the trailer, not weight and not hours. A 16-foot dump trailer holds roughly 12 to 14 cubic yards. Here is roughly where common pieces land:

• Recliner, loveseat, dresser, single mattress: $95–$135. One item, curbside or first floor.
• Full sofa or sectional piece: $125–$180. Sectionals price per piece, not per set — a 3-piece sectional is closer to $300.
• Bedroom set (bed frame, mattress, box spring, dresser, nightstand): $260–$340.
• Living room clear-out (sofa, two chairs, coffee table, TV stand, rug): $325–$450.
• Full house, 3-bedroom, furnished: $900–$1,600 depending on how much is in the garage and shed.

The Pueblo County Landfill on Goodnight Ave charges roughly $38–$52 per ton for household waste, with a minimum charge around $18. A packed sofa-and-mattress load runs 400 to 700 pounds — call it $12 to $20 in tipping fees. That's already inside your quote. If a hauler quotes you $89 and then adds a "disposal fee" at the truck, you're being upsold on something that cost them under twenty bucks.

Pueblo West is not Pueblo proper, and the differences show up on the invoice.

Most of Pueblo West sits on half-acre to 2.5-acre lots with long gravel or dirt driveways, detached garages, and no alley access. That means a longer carry — 60 to 150 feet from the front door to where a trailer can safely sit — versus 20 to 30 feet in a Bessemer or Belmont bungalow. Long carries add 15 to 25 minutes per heavy piece.

The Pueblo West Metro District does not run bulk-item curbside pickup. There's no "put it out on the third Tuesday" program the way some Front Range municipalities have. Your options are: haul it yourself, hire someone, or let it sit. That absence is the single biggest reason this search gets typed here.

Wind is a real scheduling factor. Pueblo West regularly sees 35–50 mph gusts in March and April. We won't strap a loose mattress or a hollow-core wardrobe onto an open trailer in a 45 mph crosswind on Purcell Blvd — it becomes someone else's windshield. On those days we tarp heavier, load differently, or move you to the next morning.

> The honest version: furniture removal is a labor and logistics purchase, not a magic trick. You're paying two people to do 90 minutes of awkward lifting and one landfill run. Whether that's worth $150 depends entirely on whether you own a truck and a friend.

This is the section that costs us jobs, and we'd rather lose the job than the trust.

Don't hire us if you own a pickup and the item fits. A single recliner or twin mattress in the bed of an F-150, driven to the Goodnight Ave landfill, costs you about $18 in tipping fees, $6 in gas, and 50 minutes. We'd charge $95–$135 for that. If you're physically able and have the truck, hiring out a one-item job is paying roughly $100 for convenience. Some weeks that's a fair trade. Most weeks it isn't.

Don't hire us if the furniture is genuinely sellable. A real-wood dresser, an Ethan Allen dining set, a solid mid-century piece — these move on Pueblo Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace within a week at $75 to $400. Listing it takes 10 minutes. Paying us $130 to throw away a $250 dresser is a $380 swing in the wrong direction. Marketplace buyers in Pueblo West will usually load it themselves, which solves your labor problem for free.

Don't hire us for one small item if you can wait and batch. Our per-item price drops steeply with volume. One chair is $95. Five chairs, a table, and a dresser is $290 — about $41 per piece. If you know the garage cleanout is coming in six weeks anyway, hold the chair and do it once. We'll tell you this on the phone.

Don't call us for a donation you haven't tried to donate. Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Pueblo takes clean, structurally sound furniture and will often pick it up free if you're on their route and the piece qualifies. Free beats $130. The catch: they schedule 1–3 weeks out, they reject anything stained, torn, smoke-damaged, or with particleboard swelling, and they don't take mattresses. If your piece passes, call them first.

Also worth knowing: any upholstered item stored in a garage through a Pueblo West summer — where interior garage temps hit 110–120°F — has a real chance of bed bug, mouse, or mold contamination. Contaminated upholstery cannot be donated, cannot be resold, and in our experience adds $40–$75 to a removal because it has to be bagged and handled separately. If a couch has been in the garage for two years, plan on disposal, not donation.

Furniture removal goes sideways in predictable ways. Here's what actually happens:

• It doesn't fit back out. Sectionals and sleeper sofas are frequently assembled in the room or carried in before a wall, railing, or door was changed. If it won't come out through a 30-inch door, the choices are disassembly (add 20–45 minutes) or cutting it apart (add $50–$85 and a lot of dust). We'd rather tell you this from the driveway than halfway down the stairs.
• Sleeper sofas weigh 250–350 pounds. The steel frame inside a queen sleeper is the reason. Narrow stairwells plus a sleeper is the one combination we sometimes decline outright.
• Stairs price separately. A second-floor carry typically adds $25–$50 per large piece. Any hauler quoting you a flat rate without asking about stairs is either going to renegotiate on site or eat it and resent it.
• Same-day isn't always real. We book same-day when there's an open slot, which realistically happens 3 or 4 days out of 7. Friday afternoons and the first weekend of the month — move-out weekend — we're typically booked 2 to 4 days out.
• We won't take everything. Wet or mold-heavy upholstery, anything with visible live insect activity, and furniture soaked in sewage water get declined or priced as a hazmat-adjacent job. That isn't squeamishness; the landfill has rules and so does our trailer.

We quote from photos. Text three pictures — the item, the path from the item to the door, and the driveway — and you get a real number, usually inside 30 minutes during business hours. That number holds unless what we find on site is materially different from the photos.

What changes a quote after arrival:

• Additional items added at the door (common and fine, just repriced)
• A carry longer than described, especially unpaved
• Stairs not mentioned
• Disassembly required that wasn't visible in photos

We don't do the "$99 and up" thing. "Up" is where the whole invoice lives, and it's a bait number. Our minimum job is $95, and we'll say so before you spend time on the call.

Typical on-site time for a one-room furniture removal is 45 to 90 minutes. Full-house furnished cleanouts run 4 to 7 hours and sometimes span two days if the trailer fills. Not everything goes to the landfill, and we'd rather it didn't — every ton we divert is a ton we don't pay to tip.

Metal-framed items — bed frames, filing cabinets, metal desks, patio sets — go to scrap. Clean, intact upholstered pieces and solid-wood furniture get offered to local donation channels before they see a trailer floor. Realistically, 25% to 40% of a typical residential furniture load avoids the landfill. The rest — particleboard, stained mattresses, broken frames, anything that's been rained on — genuinely has nowhere else to go, and anyone telling you they divert 90% of household furniture is selling you a feeling.

Mattresses are their own problem. Colorado has no statewide mattress recycling program comparable to California's or Connecticut's, and Pueblo has no dedicated mattress recycler. In practice, mattresses get landfilled here. We're not going to pretend otherwise.
