Almost every company in Southern Colorado prices by volume — how much floor and wall space your stuff eats in the truck. That price bundles four costs: labor (usually 2 people), fuel and drive time, disposal fees at the scale, and the truck itself.

The number that matters is cubic yards. A standard full-size pickup bed, loaded level, is about 2 to 2.5 cubic yards. Our trailer holds 15 cubic yards, which is roughly 6 pickup loads or about 3,500–4,000 pounds of household junk before we hit weight limits.

Volume pricing breaks in exactly two situations, and any honest company will tell you this up front:

• Dense material. A half-load of concrete weighs more than a full load of couches. Ten cubic yards of broken patio slab is close to 20,000 pounds — that is three separate trips and three separate scale tickets. • Labor-heavy material. A hot tub in the backyard behind a 36-inch gate is 90 minutes of demolition before anything gets loaded. The volume of the debris is maybe 4 cubic yards, but the job is priced on the two hours of work, not the 4 yards.

These are the price bands we quote most often out here:

• Single mattress or box spring: $85–$125. A queen set is usually $145–$175 because it hits the minimum.
• Washer, dryer, or standard fridge: $95–$145. Add $35 for refrigerant recovery on anything with a compressor — that is an EPA requirement, not an upsell.
• Sectional sofa or large entertainment center: $175–$295 depending on stairs and disassembly.
• Two-car [garage cleanout](/services/garage-cleanout-pueblo): $395–$675. Half-day, two people, usually one full trailer.

• Yard debris — tumbleweed, elm limbs, dead juniper: $225–$495 per load. Very common on the 1-acre and 2.5-acre lots north of Purcell.

• Full estate or foreclosure cleanout: $1,400–$3,800, typically 3–6 trailer loads over 1–2 days.

> The single biggest price driver in Pueblo West isn't how much junk you have. It's how far our crew has to carry it — a 120-foot walk from a back lot to the driveway can add $75 to $150 to the same pile that would cost nothing extra in a garage.

Pueblo West is not Pueblo proper, and a few local realities move the number:

Lot size and carry distance. Half-acre minimums mean the junk is often 100+ feet from where the truck can park. Two crew members walking 40 round trips is real time.

Unpaved and steep driveways. After a monsoon week in July or August, we won't put a loaded 10,000-pound trailer on a soft dirt drive — we'll park on the county road and carry. That adds time and cost.

Disposal distance. From most of Pueblo West it's 18–25 minutes each way to the transfer station or landfill, plus scale time. Budget 75–90 minutes of round-trip per load. That drive is baked into the quote.

Wind. Sustained 30–40 mph gusts are normal here in spring. Loose material has to be tarped and strapped, which is 10–15 extra minutes per load and non-negotiable — an unsecured load is a ticket and a hazard on Highway 50.

Outlying areas. Colorado City, Rye, Beulah, Avondale, and Boone typically carry a $45–$95 trip charge past our standard [service area](/areas).

This is the part most junk removal websites leave out. Here are the cases where hiring us is the wrong call, plainly stated:

You have one item and a truck-owning friend. A single mattress at the Pueblo County landfill costs you a $25–$40 minimum tipping fee plus gas. We'd charge $85–$125. If you have a truck, straps, and a free Saturday, do it yourself. You'll save $60–$90. That is a real saving and we're not going to pretend otherwise.

You're doing a slow, multi-week remodel. If you'll be generating debris for 3 weeks, a 10-yard roll-off dumpster at roughly $325–$450 for a 7-day rental (plus overage past 2 tons) beats calling us four separate times at $395 each. Dumpsters win on duration. We win on speed and on not having a container in your driveway. Pick based on your timeline, not the sales pitch.

Your stuff is genuinely sellable. A working fridge under 8 years old, a clean sectional, patio furniture in good shape — list it. A free Facebook Marketplace listing at $0 with "you haul" gets a truck in your driveway in 48 hours in this market. Paying us $145 to remove something a neighbor would pick up for free is a bad trade.

The Metro District cleanup event is 3 weeks away. Pueblo West runs periodic community cleanup and free dump days. If your junk is non-urgent, fits in your own vehicle, and qualifies under their rules, wait for it. That's $0 versus our $145 minimum. Check the district calendar before you call us.

You want us to take things we can't legally take. We do not haul: paint and solvents, motor oil, pesticides, propane tanks, tires (some transfer stations charge $8–$25 each and refuse them in mixed loads), asbestos-containing material, medical waste, or ammunition. If your garage cleanout is 60% hazardous chemicals, most of the job has to go to a household hazardous waste event and we're only solving 40% of your problem. Know that before you book.

You're shopping purely on price. There is always someone on Craigslist who will do it for $80 cash. Sometimes that goes fine. The failure mode is illegal dumping — your old couch on a two-track off Bandera or Joe Martinez, and your name is on the mail inside the box. Ask any hauler for proof of insurance and where the load is going. If they can't answer both, the $80 isn't a bargain.

For a full 15-yard load, doing it yourself looks like this: 6 round trips in a pickup at ~45 minutes each is 4.5 hours, plus roughly 60 miles of driving, plus $90–$180 in tipping fees on about 2 tons of mixed waste, plus fuel. Call it 5 hours of your Saturday and $130 out of pocket versus our $595–$675.

If your time is worth less than about $110/hour and your back is fine, self-haul is cheaper. That's the honest breakeven. Most people who call us are doing it because they don't have a truck, can't lift a 280-pound console TV, or are on a closing deadline — not because it pencils out cheaper on a spreadsheet.

• Is the quote all-in, including disposal fees and fuel, or does the landfill charge get added after?
• What is the minimum charge, and does a single item hit it?
• Are you insured, and can you send the certificate?
• What happens if the load is heavier than estimated — is there a per-ton overage, and at what rate?
• Where does the material go, and what percentage gets donated or recycled?

Text photos. Four pictures — the pile, the path to the driveway, any stairs, and a shot with a person or door in frame for scale — gets you a firm price in under 15 minutes during business hours. We hold that quote as long as the pile matches the photos. On-site estimates are free and take about 10 minutes, and same-week scheduling is normal outside of the spring rush in April and May, when we typically book 5–8 days out.
