COST TO REPLACE KITCHEN APPLIANCES

Here's what those numbers actually look like broken apart, and where Pueblo West specifically changes the math.

Prices below are installed, not sticker. Sticker is roughly 15–25% lower before delivery, install, and disposal.

• Refrigerator: $700–$1,400 for a 18–21 cu. ft. top-freezer. $1,600–$2,900 for a standard French-door. $3,000–$5,500 for counter-depth or built-in. Delivery is usually free over $399 at the big boxes; hookup of an ice maker line runs $75–$150 if you don't have a shutoff valve already.
• Range: $550–$900 freestanding electric coil or smooth-top. $1,100–$2,000 for gas or convection. $1,900–$3,800 for a slide-in or induction unit. If you're switching electric-to-gas, add $250–$600 for a plumber to run the line — and in a lot of Pueblo West homes on propane rather than natural gas, that's a different conversation entirely.
• Dishwasher: $450–$800 builder-grade, $900–$1,600 for a quiet (44 dB or under) model. Install is $130–$220 unless your old one was hardwired and the new one needs a cord kit.
• Over-the-range microwave: $250–$550. Install is $100–$180 and requires two people because of the mounting bracket.
• Wall oven / cooktop combo: $2,200–$5,000. Cabinet modification, if the new unit's cutout doesn't match, adds $300–$900 in carpentry.

That's the sticker world. The part that surprises people is the exit cost.

Every retailer handles old-appliance removal differently, and the differences are real money:

• Home Depot / Lowe's: typically $25–$50 per appliance haul-away, and only for the appliance they're replacing, delivered the same day, and only if it's disconnected and accessible. They will not take a second fridge from your garage. They will not carry anything down stairs. They will not take a unit that still has food in it.
• Independent Pueblo appliance dealers: often include haul-away on the replaced unit, but usually charge $40–$75 for anything extra.
• Pueblo County landfill self-haul: roughly $25–$45 per load depending on weight, plus a separate refrigerant-removal fee on anything with a compressor. You'll need a truck, a helper, and a Saturday.
• Independent junk haulers (us included): $75–$150 for one appliance, dropping to $45–$85 per unit when you're clearing three or four at once.

The refrigerant rule is where people get stuck. Refrigerators, freezers, window AC units, and some dehumidifiers contain R-134a or R-410a, which is federally regulated under EPA Section 608. It has to be recovered by a certified tech before the shell goes to scrap. Nobody in Pueblo County will let you leave a fridge at the curb, and dumping one on a lot off Purcell or McCulloch is an illegal-dumping citation that starts around $500 and climbs.

> The appliances are the easy part. The old ones sitting in your garage for four months because "we'll deal with it later" are what actually costs you — in space, in resale photos, and eventually in a bigger haul.

A few local factors move these numbers in ways a national cost article won't tell you:

• Delivery zones. Several retailers treat addresses west of the Pueblo Boulevard as an outer delivery zone. That's a $0–$79 surcharge depending on the store and the week. Ask before you buy, not after.
• Acreage lots and long driveways. A lot of Pueblo West properties sit on 1–2.5 acre parcels with 100+ foot gravel driveways. Delivery crews driving box trucks will sometimes refuse to back down a soft or steep drive, and "curbside delivery" means exactly that. Budget an extra pair of hands or a $50–$100 tip situation.
• Well water. Homes on private wells in Pueblo West often run harder water than city supply. Hard water is the single biggest killer of dishwashers and ice makers. If you're replacing a dishwasher that died at year six, a $600–$1,200 softener may be a better use of money than a $1,500 dishwasher that will die at year six again.
• Propane vs. natural gas. Large stretches of Pueblo West are not on a natural gas main. A "gas range" purchase requires an LP conversion kit ($30–$120) and a tech to install the correct orifices. Buying the wrong one is a return, a restocking fee, and two more weeks without a stove.
• Garage as staging. Detached and oversized garages are common here, which is exactly why old appliances accumulate. Don't replace an appliance under 8 years old for a single failure. The math is straightforward: if the repair quote is less than 50% of the replacement cost and the unit is under half its expected lifespan, repair it. Expected lifespans run roughly 13 years for a refrigerator, 13–15 for a gas range, 9–10 for a dishwasher, and 9 for a microwave. A $220 refrigerator control board on a 5-year-old unit is a good repair. The same board on a 12-year-old unit is throwing money at a dying machine.

Don't do a full four-piece replacement just for looks if you're selling within 12 months. Kitchen appliance packages recoup somewhere in the 50–70% range at resale in the Pueblo market — you're rarely getting your $6,000 back, and buyers in the $300–450K range here are more sensitive to roof age and HVAC than to whether the fridge is counter-depth. Replacing the one broken unit and cleaning the rest is usually the better financial move.

Don't hire a junk hauler for a single, functional, easily-accessible appliance. If your old fridge still runs and it's sitting in an attached garage with a straight shot to the driveway, your cheaper options in order are: (1) let the retailer take it for $25–$50 during delivery, (2) list it free on Facebook Marketplace and it'll be gone in under 48 hours in Pueblo West, (3) call us. Don't call us for one item if the driveway is the problem and you own a truck. Our minimum runs in the $95–$150 range regardless of how small the job is, because the cost is the truck, the fuel from our yard, the two-person crew, and the disposal fee — not the item. One microwave costs us nearly the same to pick up as a full load. If you have a truck and a free Saturday, self-hauling to the county facility for $25–$45 will beat us on price every time. What you're buying from a hauler is the stairs, the back injury you didn't get, and the four hours.

Where we genuinely can't help: we don't disconnect gas lines or hardwired 240V circuits. If your range is still connected to a live gas or hardwired electrical supply, it has to be disconnected by you, a plumber, or an electrician before we arrive. We also can't take appliances still containing food, standing water, or active mold without a different scope and price. And we can't do anything about a fridge in a basement with a 32-inch stairwell turn if the fridge came in before the wall did — that's a demo conversation, not a haul conversation.

• Appliances: $4,800
• Delivery + install (4 units): $340
• LP conversion kit + gas tech: $290
• Electrical outlet relocation for slide-in range: $180
• Haul-away of 4 old units in one trip: $220
• Total: $5,830

The version where you do it piecemeal over eight months — four separate deliveries, four separate haul-away fees, one emergency weekend repair on the unit you were "getting to next" — lands closer to $6,400 for the same appliances. Sequencing matters more than shopping.

• Late September through early October and Black Friday week are the two deepest appliance discount windows — 25–40% off is normal, versus 10–15% the rest of the year.
• Floor models and open-box at the Pueblo stores run 20–35% off with full warranty. Ask specifically; they don't advertise them.
• Lead times on special orders ran 3–8 weeks through most of 2025. If your fridge is dead, in-stock is worth more than the perfect finish.
• Schedule the haul-away for the same week as delivery, not after. Old appliances that sit for a month become old appliances that sit for a year.
