COST TO REMOVE A TUB: 2026 PRICES

Most quotes you'll get over the phone are guesses because the person quoting doesn't know these three things yet. Get them straight before you call anyone.

1. What the tub is made of. This is the single biggest cost driver.

• Acrylic or fiberglass: 60–80 lbs. One person can carry it. $150–$200 haul-away.
• Enameled steel: 80–120 lbs. Awkward but manageable. $175–$250.
• Cast iron: 300–400 lbs for a standard 60" alcove tub. Some 1950s-era Kohler and American Standard units hit 450 lbs. $250–$350 just to remove, and that assumes we can break it in place.
• Cast iron clawfoot: 250–350 lbs, but it doesn't fit through a 30" doorway upright and it's usually worth saving. $225–$400, and we'll often haul it to a salvage buyer instead of the landfill.

2. Whether demolition is included. A tub sitting in the driveway is a haul. A tub grouted into a tiled alcove with a 3-piece surround is a demolition job. Cutting a cast iron tub into pieces with a sledge and a reciprocating saw takes a two-person crew 20 to 45 minutes — and generates 8 to 12 cubic feet of tile, backer board, and mortar that also has to leave. That surround debris is why the "just the tub" number and the "actual invoice" number differ by $150–$300.

3. The carry. In most Pueblo West ranch homes off Purcell, McCulloch, or Joe Martinez, the bathroom is 25–40 feet from the front door with one or two 90-degree turns. That's fine. Second-floor bathrooms in the newer builds near the golf course add roughly $50–$75 because everything comes down a staircase in pieces.

Half the people searching this phrase in Pueblo West mean a spa, not a bathtub. The numbers aren't close, so don't budget from a bathtub article.

A 7' x 7' acrylic spa with a full cabinet weighs 700–900 lbs empty and holds 350–450 gallons. Draining it takes 45–90 minutes on a garden hose siphon, and around here that water can't just dump toward a neighbor's lot line on a sloped acre. Typical all-in cost:

• Free-standing spa on a concrete pad, drained, truck access: $250–$400
• Spa inside a wood deck surround: $450–$800 (we're cutting deck framing first)
• Spa with a hardwired 50-amp GFCI subpanel: add $100–$200, and you need an electrician to disconnect it — we won't pull live wire
• Above-ground gazebo or pergola over it: now it's a demo job, $800–$1,500

> A cast iron bathtub and a 6-person spa both get called "the tub." One costs $275 and the other can cost $1,400. The difference is almost never the labor — it's the deck, the electrical, and the concrete underneath.

This is where the generic national pricing articles fall apart, because they're written for markets with curbside bulk pickup. Pueblo West Metro District does not run a bulk-item curbside program, and your private hauler — Waste Connections, Republic, whoever you're on — is not taking a bathtub on the regular route. So the "just set it at the curb" option that works in Denver suburbs doesn't exist here.

Your real disposal paths:

• Pueblo County landfill on the south side. Minimum gate fees for a pickup load generally land in the $25–$45 range, and they charge by weight above that. Confirm current rates before you drive — they change and hours are limited on weekends.
• Scrap metal yards in Pueblo. Cast iron and enameled steel are sellable. At $0.04–$0.09 per pound for cast, a 350-lb tub returns $14 to $32. That's real money against a DIY dump run but it does not meaningfully lower a professional quote — the labor is 85% of the cost.
• Fiberglass and acrylic have zero scrap value. They go in the landfill, full stop. Anyone telling you they "recycle" a fiberglass tub in Pueblo County is telling you a story.
• Drive time. Pueblo West to the landfill is 20–30 minutes each way depending on where you are off Highway 50. That round trip is baked into everyone's price, and it's why a $150 minimum exists at all.

Here's the part that costs us jobs. Some of these are worth saying out loud.

If your tub is acrylic and you own a pickup, do it yourself. An acrylic tub is 70 lbs. Two people, a reciprocating saw, and 90 minutes. You'll spend about $25 on blades and a $30 landfill fee. Paying us $175 for that is paying for convenience, and if $145 matters to your budget this month, keep it.

If you're already paying a contractor for the bathroom remodel, ask them first. A full-bath remodel in Pueblo West runs $9,000–$22,000. Tub demo and disposal is often already inside that number, or the contractor will add it for $100–$150 because they've got a trailer on site anyway. Hiring us separately can be pure duplicate spend. Ask your GC to show you the demo line item before you call anybody.

If you're gutting more than the bathroom, rent a dumpster instead. A 10-yard roll-off in the Pueblo area runs roughly $325–$500 for a 7-day rental. We will not disconnect plumbing. We cap nothing, we cut no supply lines, we touch no drain assembly under the floor. Colorado requires a licensed plumber for that work and we're a junk removal outfit, not a plumbing contractor. This is the number one reason a "$200 job" turns into a wasted morning — plan the plumber for the day *before*, not the same day.

If your home was built before 1985, get the tile tested first. Old mastic and some sheet flooring under bathrooms contain asbestos. A lab test runs $75–$150 and takes 3–5 business days. If it comes back positive, this stops being a junk removal job entirely and becomes a licensed abatement project at $1,500–$4,000. We will walk off a job that looks like friable material, and you should want us to.

If the tub is a walk-in unit or has a motor, the value equation changes. Walk-in tubs retail for $3,000–$8,000. If yours is under 8 years old and functional, list it. Someone will pay $400–$900 and pull it themselves.

Failure mode to know about: a cast iron tub that's been in place since 1972 is often sitting on a mortar bed that has bonded to the subfloor. Breaking it out can pull up a 2 x 4-foot section of subfloor with it. That's a real repair, usually $200–$500 in plywood and labor, and it isn't our fault or yours — it's what 50-year-old construction does. Budget a contingency.
