COST TO CLEAR A GARAGE: $175–$3,200

Doing it yourself costs $60 to $180 in dump fees and truck fuel, plus a full weekend. Below is how the numbers actually break down, and a plain list of situations where you should not hire us.

Nearly every quote you'll get in Pueblo County is priced on volume in the truck, not the size of your garage. A 24x24 detached garage with a clear center aisle and stuff stacked along two walls is a half load. The same garage packed to the door is three loads. The building didn't change; the cubic feet did.

Typical volume-based pricing in the Pueblo West market:

• Minimum / single item: $95–$175 (one couch, one water heater, one treadmill)
• 1/4 truckload: $200–$275 — roughly a small pickup bed heaped
• 1/2 truckload: $350–$475 — the most common garage-corner cleanout
• 3/4 truckload: $500–$625
• Full truckload (14–16 cubic yards): $650–$800

Two things blow up that pricing, and neither is obvious from the driveway:

Weight. Volume pricing assumes household density — maybe 150 lbs per cubic yard. Pueblo West garages routinely hold leftover flagstone, pavers, broken concrete from a patio pour, bagged Quikrete gone hard, and roof tile. A single pallet of hardened concrete bags weighs 3,000 lbs and fills less than a cubic yard. Transfer stations here charge by the ton, so a "quarter load" of masonry can cost more than a full load of cardboard. Decision time. This is the one nobody quotes you on.

> The average Pueblo West garage cleanout is 35% loading and 65% the homeowner standing in the driveway deciding whether to keep the box of PVC fittings. We bill for both.

If you have not decided what's leaving before the truck arrives, expect to pay 20–40% more than the same volume would otherwise cost. Two-man crews here run roughly $110–$150 per hour of on-site labor once you back into the math. Thirty minutes of "wait, let me check that tote" is $55–$75.

The cheapest thing you can do — and this genuinely saves money, we're not being polite — is spend one evening before the appointment moving everything you're keeping to one wall and putting blue painter's tape on it. This market has quirks that don't show up in national pricing articles:

• Lot size and driveway surface. A lot of Pueblo West homes sit on 1 to 2.5 acres with long gravel or dirt drives off Purcell, McCulloch, or the outer Joe Martinez area. During July–August monsoon season, a soft drive means we park at the road and hand-carry 120 feet. That adds 45–60 minutes, roughly $75–$125.
• Detached shops and RV bays. Homes built 1978–1998 out here frequently have a 30x40 shop in addition to the attached garage. Homeowners quote us the garage and forget the shop. That's usually a second full load.
• Heat. Interior garage temps hit 105–115°F by 2 p.m. in July. We start Pueblo West jobs at 6:30 or 7 a.m. in summer because crew output drops noticeably after about 11 a.m., and slower crews cost you money on hourly overage.
• Metro District covenants. Pueblo West Metro District rules restrict long-term outdoor storage of inoperable vehicles and accumulated material. If you're clearing a garage because you got a notice, you likely have a 15- or 30-day window — confirm your actual date before scheduling, since our next-available in spring is often 5–9 days out.
• Distance to disposal. Everything goes to Pueblo, roughly 12–18 miles depending on where you are. That round trip is 45–60 minutes. It's why a second load costs less than the first — one mobilization, two hauls.

Here's the honest arithmetic for a two-car garage you'd otherwise pay us $600 for:

• Truck rental: $19.95/day plus $0.99/mile. Four round trips to Pueblo at ~30 miles each = 120 miles = $139
• Fuel: roughly $45
• Disposal: $38–$55 per pickup-sized load at Pueblo-area transfer, four loads = $152–$220
• Special items: refrigerator or AC unit with refrigerant, $35–$50 surcharge; mattresses $25–$40 each; tires $6–$14 each
• Your time: 11–14 hours across a weekend, plus one helper you owe a favor

Total cash out: $375–$480. So you save roughly $150–$225 and spend a weekend. That's a real savings and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. Whether it's worth it depends entirely on what your Saturday is worth and whether you can lift a 260 lb tool chest without hurting yourself.

A 15-yard dumpster rented in the Pueblo area runs $375–$525 for a 7-day window with a 2-ton weight cap and $60–$85 per ton over. It sits in your driveway for a week, which is either the main benefit or the main problem.

This is the part most junk removal pages leave out. Skip us in these cases:

• You have less than a half pickup load and you own a pickup. Our minimum is $95–$175. Your dump fee is about $38. Load it yourself. We'd rather tell you that than send a truck for a $110 job you resented paying for.

• Propane tanks, ammunition, reloading powder, primers — common in garages out here and an absolute no
• Asbestos — old floor tile, pipe wrap, and some 1970s siding stacked in the corner require a licensed abatement contractor, and it's a felony-adjacent problem if handled wrong
• Medical waste, needles, and anything biologically contaminated
• Bulk tires beyond about 8–10 — quantity limits at disposal, and per-tire fees stack
