24 HOUR APPLIANCE REMOVAL, PUEBLO

One thing to be straight about before you read further: we are not a 24-hour appliance repair company. If your fridge is warm and full of food and you want a technician to fix it tonight, we are the wrong number. We remove and dispose of dead appliances. Most people searching this phrase at 11 p.m. actually need one of those two things, and it's worth knowing which.

The search phrase covers three different emergencies, and the fix for each is different:

• The appliance is broken and you want it repaired. Call a licensed repair tech. Realistic Pueblo-area cost is a $65–$110 diagnostic fee plus parts and labor, commonly landing at $150–$400 for a compressor relay, a dryer heating element, or a washer pump.
• The appliance is leaking and flooding something right now. Shut off the supply valve behind it, kill the breaker, and call a plumber. A failed 40-gallon water heater can push out 40 gallons in under 20 minutes onto a finished floor. Removal comes after the water stops.
• The appliance is dead, replaced, or in the way, and it needs to be gone. That's us. Same-day, after-hours, weekend, holiday.

Our published pricing, so you're not guessing at midnight:

• $89 — one appliance, curbside, garage, or driveway, during standard hours (7 a.m.–8 p.m., seven days).
• $150 — two appliances at the same address, same trip.
• $125–$165 — single appliance requiring stairs, tight turns, a disconnected water line, or a door removal.
• $75 after-hours surcharge — calls dispatched between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. That covers the crew callback, and we won't pretend it doesn't exist.
• $95 — refrigerant recovery on any unit with a sealed cooling system (fridge, freezer, window AC, dehumidifier), performed by an EPA-certified tech.

That refrigerant line is the one nobody mentions in ads. Under EPA Section 608, venting refrigerant to the atmosphere is illegal, and a certified technician has to recover it before the unit is crushed or scrapped. Any hauler quoting you $50 flat for a refrigerator either has that cost buried somewhere or is dumping the unit charged, which is not your problem legally but is somebody's.

> A $60 quote for a refrigerator and a $155 quote for the same refrigerator are usually not the same service. One of them includes the certified recovery step and the paperwork behind it.

Pueblo West is unincorporated Pueblo County, and that changes the disposal math in ways city residents never encounter:

• No municipal bulk-item pickup by default. Residential trash out here is a private hauler contract. Many of those contracts cap bulk pickups at one or two per year and exclude anything with a compressor. Check your specific agreement before you assume the curb works.
• Long driveways and acre lots. A 300-foot gravel driveway off Purcell or McCulloch means we're often hand-carrying an appliance 100+ feet rather than backing a truck to the door. That's built into our stair/access pricing, not tacked on after.
• Detached garages and outbuildings. A lot of Pueblo West appliance calls are a 15-year-old chest freezer in a shop building that hasn't run since 2019. Those come with mouse nests and a seized lid. We plan for 30–45 minutes on those, not 10.
• Wind. A 40 mph gust across an open lot will take a refrigerator door off your hand. We strap doors before we move anything, every time.

This is the part that costs us money to write, and we'd rather you knew it now than felt taken afterward.

Don't pay the after-hours surcharge for a dead appliance. A refrigerator that failed at 9 p.m. is not going to get worse by 8 a.m. You're paying $75 extra for the removal to happen while you sleep. Unless the unit is blocking a doorway, leaking, or you have a delivery crew arriving at 7 a.m. who won't take the old one, book the morning slot. We'll tell you this on the phone.

Don't call us if the appliance is worth fixing. The rough rule: if the repair quote is under 50% of a comparable replacement and the unit is under 8 years old, fix it. A dryer heating element at $180 on a 4-year-old machine that costs $750 to replace is an easy call. A $520 compressor on a 14-year-old fridge is not.

Don't call us if you can sell it or give it away. A working-but-ugly washer, a dorm fridge, a decent chest freezer — these move on Facebook Marketplace in Pueblo West within 24–48 hours at $50–$150, and the buyer loads it themselves. You net a couple hundred dollars instead of paying us $89. Post it before you call us. Genuinely.

Don't expect scrap value to cover the job. People ask this constantly. Scrap steel has recently run in the neighborhood of $0.04–$0.08 per pound at regional yards. A 250-pound refrigerator is therefore $10–$20 of steel, minus the transport, minus the refrigerant recovery, minus the labor. Nobody is paying you to take your fridge, and anyone who says they will is planning to leave it somewhere.

Where we fail. We can't get a 36-inch-wide side-by-side through a 30-inch doorway without pulling the door and sometimes the trim, and occasionally the answer is that it doesn't come out intact — we'll say so before we start rather than after we've damaged your jamb. We don't do plumbing or electrical disconnects on hardwired units; a hardwired range or a soldered water heater needs the appropriate trade first. And a true 2 a.m. dispatch depends on crew availability — we'll give you a straight yes or a straight "first thing, 7:15," not a maybe that turns into 9 a.m.

If you have a truck and a helper, hauling it yourself is real money saved. Budget for it accurately:

• Truck rental: roughly $19.95 base plus $0.99–$1.29/mile, and Pueblo West to a Pueblo-area disposal site is about 10–14 miles each way.
• Disposal fee: appliance-specific fees commonly land in the $25–$60 range, and units with refrigerant carry an added charge. Call the site the morning of — rates and accepted-item lists change.
• Time: 2–3 hours door to door, plus loading.
• Risk: a full-size fridge is 200–320 pounds, top-heavy, and the number one way people hurt their back is walking one down basement stairs backward.

Net it out and DIY saves roughly $30–$50 on a single curbside appliance. On a basement unit or a two-appliance job, we're usually cheaper than your Saturday. That's the honest comparison, and it's why we'd rather quote you than oversell you.

We ask four questions: what is it, where is it in the house, is it still hooked up, and does anything have to come off the wall. That determines the price before we roll — no on-site renegotiation. Doors get strapped, floors get protected on interior carries, and refrigerant units are tagged for certified recovery rather than tossed on a scrap pile.
